This a message to all you dogs out there. Your person or people might prepare your food, take you for walks, pick up your poo, wash you and do many other things for you, but you do not own them. They are not your slaves. They belong to you and you belong to them, but you do not own them and they do not own you. You can not own another sentient being. I have never met a pig but I would love to. I think they should make the dog park the dog and pig park. I think we could have a lot of fun. It also describes in the book how playful they are.
Life is great when you are intelligent, loyal and above all, affectionate.

Oh Ruby Isabella, I'm sure you would enjoy pigs! I fostered 12 potbellied pigs for a sanctuary for nearly two years, and my dogs loved to come with me to feed them, and (being collies) tried to herd them around the farm. Pigs are very, very smart (if you let them in the house, they will quickly learn to open the fridge for you Ruby Isabella!), and affectionate, and when they lift their snouties up in the air for a treat or just to say hello, their humans laugh and laugh and laugh.
I think you would like a potbellied pig sibling!
Hmmm...many dogs I've known would disagree about the ownership thing...then, they've been the most benevolent kind of owners...barking orders but being extremely forgiving if those orders weren't obeyed...
Jean- Wow! 12 potbellied pigs for 2 years. I've heard that they are very smart. Some people have even suggested that they are more intelligent than dogs! I'll speak to my people about inviting some potbellied pigs into our home.
YogaforCynics- Yes, I have met such dogs. I guess if they are benevolent, all is OK.

I don't mean to speak ill of cats but I suspect they would not agree that you cannot own another sentient being, I know some cats that are convinced they own their humans who are simply on this planet to service their needs, oh and they own the planet too I suspect, it's a cat thing.
True about cats... they believe humans are their slaves.
Ooh, my human always says she would love to have a pet pig!! What she really wants is a miniature Kune Kune pig - it's a special NZ pig that eats grass and has funny little tufts under its chin. They say pigs are really intelligent and you can train them to do lots of things...hmm, I wonder if they could dance too? :-)

Sounds like a good deal, Ruby Isabella - a pig to play with, and open the fridge door whenever you ask. I'd work on that one, if I were you. As for the owning thing, Black Jack and I think you are right on the money. Of course, we can't speak for cats:)

They will definitely fetch your slippers. (I'm not sure if they will eat them too.) I'd like to see them dancing. Isn't anyone going to leap to the defense of cats?
